"Man As Horseshoe" is a series of poems that exalt the sovereign nature of God, and seek to keep men in their proper place, a position of humility like a pair of horseshoes. The horse does not go where his shoes take him. The horse goes where God takes him with or without horseshoes. If there is such a thing as a "Lucky Horseshoe," it merely facilitates man's journey to the foreordained winner's circle.
